Can’t explain it. Don’t know why. Maybe it was because Christopher Walken looked like he was reading his lines off a cue card just off stage right. Maybe it was the chuckle-inducing Bill & Hillary cold open. Or the laugh-out-loud Weekend Update. Below are my two favorite skits…I hadn’t laughed that hard while watching SNL in a long time.

Proof that Kristen Wiig is hilarious. This one just built and built and I found myself laughing all the way through.

The best part of this skit was comparing everyone’s Christopher Walken impressions. I thought Andy Samberg’s was better than I was expecting.

Overall a fun episode that, as usual, died off near the end. Why oh why are you still 90 minutes long? Sixty would be just fine, thank you very much.

You asked, I answer. Normally I don’t flash-embed on the main page (or the RSS feed) but in this case I will. It’s a video blog post after all.

3160cPtkk9L.jpgSo, this is actually the first “Western” I’ve ever willingly watched. Sure, I’d been forced through a couple through my schooling but they were mostly the old 50′s-60′s era films that I just don’t seem to have an appreciation for. 3:10 to Yuma, however, is a completely different animal and after watching it twice, I’m still enthralled.

The acting was superb by my plebeian standards. I’m always impressed by Russell Crowe—for me he pretty much can’t mess anything up. He’s eminently believable to the point of forgetting he’s really an Aussie. He also plays bad guys really, really well. So steady, so calming, so good. I was impressed too by Christian Bale. Prior to watching the “making of” featurette, I had no idea how strong his native Welsh accent was. He masks it well and comes across as a typical 19th-century American.

I can’t recommend this film enough to both Western and non-Western fans alike. In the end it’s a touching father-son story but on the way there it’s much more. Rent it now or buy it from Amazon.

My Apple TV finally arrived today. I ordered the 40 GB model which was shipped from China on Friday. From China. On Friday. They tried to deliver it yesterday but I had it going to my work address and we were closed for MLK day. They tried delivering it on Monday. It came from China. On Friday. Now that’s freaking amazing. Anyway, I took the obligatory unboxing photos. There’s a Picasa Web flash embed after the jump. There’s also a video that’s currently encoding on Vimeo – I’ll post the embed for that after the jump as soon as it becomes available. More on my first Apple TV impressions later. Also, I have thoughts on the Macworld 2008 keynote as well…maybe at some point I will have time to type them out.

One last post before I leave for Iowa—I promise. Here’s a new video of me “playing rough” with Angel. My Vimeo upload quota for the month is all used up, so I’ve decided to try Viddler which I’d signed up for back in July but never used after I decided the inline comments were more annoying than anything. Although they do have revenue share…. Find the video embed after the jump.

In other news, the most excellent Brett Terpstra is now a blogger on TUAW. Way to go, Brett!

The videos of the Bennett Family Christmas 2007 have been up for a while…I just forgot to post about them here. You’ll find them both embedded after the jump, Vimeo-style.
